Willie Aaron "Ern" Oliver was born November 8, 1959, in Wilmington, NC to the late Aaron and Magdalene Frazier Oliver. He departed this life and entered into peaceful eternal rest on Mav 25, 2025. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion James Oliver, James "Nooney" Oliver, Anthony Bruce Oliver, sister Cassandra V. Oliver Little, and niece Darnetta Michelle Oliver. Willie "Ern/Ern Jr." attended the public schools of New Hanover County and was a stand-out athlete while at John T. Hoggard High School. He enjoyed hunting, crabbing, fishing (his all-time favorite pastime - especially with Squash, Squirrel and crew), remote control cars, NASCAR, the Dallas Cowboys, video games and spending time with family and friends. To know "Ern" well you know his friends also became his family. All who knew him knew he was genuine! He was a great brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a helping hand who would give you his last and always looked out for little people - everyone's children became his nieces and nephews. "Ern" gained many dear and lifelong friends growing up in the Jervey community. He didn't mind reminding you he ran track and played baseball, basketball and football! He was a member of the Wilmington Sandlot League where he played for Jervey and Dodge Citty, but Dodge Citty became his heart, and he became Dodge Citty! If the late Coach William Murphy had a team at the 8th Street Center (as it was known during those days) "Ern" could play on, he was there! He and his late brothers Anthony ("Fly") and James ("Nooney") were known as those Oliver brothers who could play "some good 'ole Southside ball" "Ern" was reared in a God-fearing home where his loving, caring and genuine personality began. As he grew into a reciprocated love with the Hansley family, the same ideals were lived. He became their number seven, and a void will be left in their family chain as well. "Ern" knew, understood and appreciated the importance of family and God. Willie Aaron "Ern" Oliver is survived by his immediate family: brother Nathaniel "Nate" J. Oliver; nephews Seneca M. Oliver (Colethia), Donnell T. Oliver, Isaiah Thomas, Jerome Oliver, Derek Oliver; niece Brittany Watkins; "sister-cousin" Sabrina Hill-Black• great nephews Khali Oliver, Tristan Oliver, Jayden Oliver, Maddox Thomas; great nieces D'Nea Oliver, Donejah Oliver, Mckenzie Thomas, Madison Thomas, Tatum Oliver, Reign Oliver, and Scarlett Oliver; aunts Myrtle F. Hill, Barbara F. McKinnon (Rev. James Lloyd), and Beverly F. Sweat (Jerome) of Wilmington, NC, Sadie F. Doughty and Dorothy F. Woodberry of Hemingway, SC; and sister-in-law, Jackie Watkins. "Ern" is also survived by his forever extended family: brothers Darwin "Squash" Hansley, Alonza "Squirrel" (Kim) Hanslev, Donnell 'Ghost" Hansley; sisters Yolanda Hansley Lyde, Marveta Hansley, and Mareka Deon Hansley; and goddaughter Janesse Hansley, all of Wilmington, NC. Willie will forever be remembered by his special friends Clarence "Mert" Williams, Rennie Holmes, Paletha Wilson and a host of many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
