Willard Earl Garrett, affectionately known as "Dill, Blackjack, Gary, or Garrett", was born April 20, 1957, in the South Santee Section of McClellanville, South Carolina, to the late William and Lucy Garrett, Sr.  Willard attended South Santee School, McClellanville Middle School, and Lincoln High School, where he graduated in 1976.  After high school, he worked for a few years before joining the United States Marine Corps and served for four years.  After serving in the marines, Dill later moved to New York, where he worked as a Floor Technician for Kings County Hospital for many years.  He later moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he did the same work for New Hanover Hospital.  While living in New York, Willard met the love of his life, Marcella.  They united in matrimony on January 2, 1998.  Willard accepted Christ and became a member of the Living Bread Church of Grace and Hope, in May 2018, and was a member of The Board of Directors.  He was a faithful Bible Study member, and always read the Sunday scripture.  He loved being outside with his plants and flowers.  He was truly a people person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  When he went back home to South Carolina, he enjoyed fishing with his sister-in-law Debra.  On Monday, April 28, 2025, Willard slipped away peacefully.  Proceeding him in death were his parents, William and Lucy Garrett, and his sister Shirley Campbell.
