Mrs. Vivian Walker Bowman, daughter of the late Alexander Willis, Jr. and Lula Mae Walker, was born on February 22, 1945, in Wilmington, North Carolina. On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, she peacefully transitioned into the arms of her Savior. Vivian received her education through the Brunswick County School System and proudly graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. Thereafter, Vivian served as a gifted seamstress for various corporations, bringing care, precision, and excellence to every piece she created. Following her retirement, she continued her life of service as a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels, faithfully giving her time to support and care for others in her community. On October 23, 1966, Vivian was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Leon Bowman, Sr., from this union, four children were born, and together they built a foundation rooted in love, faith, and family. Vivian was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and the heart of her home—guiding her family with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering support. At an early age, Vivian accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Mt. Calvary AME Church. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her years of dedicated service. She served faithfully as a Trustee, Missionary Member and Missionary President, Lay Member, Lay President, and Class Leader. Vivian's life was a reflection of her deep love for God and her passion for serving others. She was a pillar in her church and community, always willing to give, lead, and uplift those around her. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Carl Walker and Janice Bryant; her stepmother, Erma Willis; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Bowman. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her loving children: Michelyn Alston (Terrence) of Navassa, NC; Leon Bowman, Jr. (Catrecia) of Leland, NC; Kleist Bowman of Greer, SC; and Marcus Deon Bowman (Koren) of Raleigh, NC. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride in her life. She is also survived by her siblings: Melvin Walker (Rose) of Navassa, NC; Eulis Willis (Terryce) of Navassa, NC; Harold Willis (Lorraine) of Navassa, NC; Russell Willis of Navassa, NC; Cleo Willis of Edison, NJ; Hortense Young (Alvin) of Somerset, NJ; and Jerome Willis of Conway, SC.  Vivian also leaves behind a loving extended family, including her in-laws: Bertha Walker of Navassa, NC; Deloris Jackson (Paul) of Shelby, NC; Norris Bowman of Navassa, NC; Ruth Andrews of Navassa, NC; Bobby Bowman of Wilmington, NC; and Barbara Vega (Barry) of Manhattan, NY. She shared a special bond with her aunts, Maggie Rogers and Armour Douthit; her special nephew, Lamar Walker; and her dear friends, Marie Balloon, Mary Balloon, Gilda Waddell, and Nadine Hollis, along with the host of family and friends. Vivian will be remembered for her strength, her grace, her unwavering faith. She was a woman of quiet power, deep wisdom, and left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the faith she demonstrated daily. Well, done, good and faithful servant. Your work on earth is complete, your crown is earned, and your legacy will live on forever.
