Funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2022, a St. Andrew AME Zion Church.  Burial will follow in the Mears Cemetery, Navassa.  Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

On Friday, March 25, 2022, God called another angel home.  Vera Elizabeth Evans was born on July 31, 1957 in New Hanover County to her late mother and father, Mary Louise Andrews and Harry Andrews.  Vera graduated from New Hanover High School in 1975 in Wilmington, North Carolina.  She worked at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for 32 years and later worked at the Wilmington Treatment Center for 10 plus years.  Vera married Thomas G. Evans who preceded her in death.  Vera was a very loving wife, mother, sister, nana and great-nana.  She loved to knit, decorate, dance and play spades with family and friends.  She really loved spending time with her family and friends and also cooking.  Vera recently rejoined St. Andrew AME Zion Church.  In addition to her parents and husband, Vera was also preceded in death by sister, Deborah Jackson; brothers, James O. Bragg and Henry Batts; sister-in-law, Eunice and brothers-in-law, Delord Evans and Tony Cook.  Vera will be greatly missed from her loving family and friends.  Vera leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Shawan (Kenn) Robinson; her son, Thomas G. Evans II; grandson, Malik Robinson (Gabrielle); great-granddaughter, Talurah Robinson; sisters, Nora Batts, Mayola Johnson. Judy Davis, Pricilla Bragg, Ruth Cook, Linda Andrews, Anita Bragg and Jean Brag; brothers, Jessie Bragg, George Bragg and Terry (Cressie) Andrews; brothers-in-law, Larry Evans, Gregory Evans, Johnny Evans and Isiah Evans all of Chicago IL and David Jackson; aunts, Georgia Dowdell of Trenton, NJ and Esther Brown of Wilmington, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
