Celebrating the Life of Mr. Torrance LaMond Lacewell.  On Monday, December 30, 2024, God called Torrance LaMond Lacewell from his earthly body to put on his heavenly body.  Torrance was a beloved resident of Norwich, New York, but he was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on March 18, 1976, to Carolyn and William Lacewell, Jr.  He was the second oldest of four siblings, with his older brother Dennis, younger brother Marcus, and younger sister Chaunte. Torrance was a man of exceptional talent, intelligence, and leadership. From an early age, he showed an extraordinary love for music, with a tenor voice that graced the choir at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. His musical gift extended beyond singing, as he taught himself to play several instruments, including piano and alto saxophone. As a student at E.A. Laney High School, Torrance was a first-chair alto saxophonist and helped compose music for the band during his senior year. Torrance composed several pieces of music for the band to play, such as the Sportscenter theme song and Cameo's "Talking Out the Side of Your Neck" or as HBCU band members, affectionately called "NECK". His leadership extended into academics and student government, where he held positions from Freshman Class President to Senior Class President. Torrance's exceptional abilities did not go unnoticed. He received full scholarship offers from some of the nation's most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including Southern University, Grambling State University, Norfolk State University, and South Carolina State University. He chose South Carolina State University, where he made history by becoming the youngest Drum Major in the university's history at the start of his sophomore year. Torrance went on to lead the over 100-member marching band through his senior year. His technical expertise in music and his mastery of tempo, timing, and performance made him an outstanding conductor and leader, admired by all who worked with him. Torrance's exceptional dance skills and ability to high kick and do a split at a drop of a dime also accentuated his mastery of drum majoring. After completing his time at South Carolina State, Torrance applied his talents to the professional world, writing policies and procedures for select companies across the East Coast. Eventually, he settled in Norwich, New York, where he continued his work with dedication and excellence. Torrance will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his music, leadership, and the indelible mark he made on the hearts of everyone he encountered. Torrance is survived by his loving parents, Carolyn and William Lacewell, Jr.; his brothers, Dennis of Chicago, IL and Marcus Lacewell of Wilmington, NC; his sister, Chaunte Lacewell (LaShonda) of Hillsboro, OR. Nieces, Parker A. Lacewell of Winston-Salem, NC; Halo S. Lacewell of Dallas, TX; Amina M. Lacewell of Hillsboro, OR. Nephew, Aiden T. Lacewell of Fayetteville, NC.  Aunts: Rheda Brown of Fredericksburg, VA; Celeste Fullwood of Jacksonville, NC; Angeline Ravix of Wilmington, NC; Sharon Wilson of Rocky Point, NC. 4 uncles: Ronald Lacewell of Wilmington, NC; Mitchell Thomas of Rocky Point, NC; Lionel Parker (Danita) of Durham, NC; Walter Parker of Durham, NC.
