Thelma Dolores Spicer was born May 8, 1936, in Wilmington, N.C., to her mother Ms. Fannie Dorothy Brown, her father Mr. Samuel Richard Spicer.  Thelma was christened in Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church as a baby.  She attended the public-school systems in Wilmington as a young child. Thelma became very ill as a young girl.  She was admitted to Community Hospital for over a month, and it was during this time, she made up her mind to be a nurse once she grew up. The family soon moved to Alexander, VA., where she graduated from Parker Gray High School in VA.  She attended Lackawanna Nursing School in Lackawanna N.Y.  She was an LPN where she worked in the hospital of special surgery for over 30 years.  She was also employed at Mary Manor Nursing home for over 10 years. Thelma was always teasing her sisters and friends but was a caring person who was always willing to help someone.  Thelma retired after over 40 years of nursing.  Ultimately, in the early 2000's, she moved back to Wilmington, where she took care of her mother until she passed. Immediately upon returning home, Thelma reunited with Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church.  She joyfully joined the Senior Choir, L. O. Saunders Club, Willing Workers, Kitchen Committee, Missionary Society and Sunday School Spiritual Godmother.  She loved to sing and watch various sports events. Thelma was preceded in death by her mother-Mrs. Fannie D Smith, father-Mr. Samuel R. Spicer, stepfather-Mr. Archie Smith, sisters-Mrs. Pauline Jones and Doris R. Spicer, brothers-Samuel R. Spicer II, half-brothers-James and Wilbur Spicer.  Thelma peacefully went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 12, 2024.  She leaves to cherish her memories, her 91-year-old sister-Mrs. Doris Spicer Jacobs of Far Rockaway, New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and nephews. In addition, a special cousin, Mr. Brian DeShields; three special friends whom she enjoyed sharing time, Mrs. Magnolia McLean, Ms. Peggy Greene, and Anita Oliver.  "May she rest in peace"
