Terry Wayne Munn, 63, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 31, 2026. His passing leaves a void in the lives of everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

Early Life
Terry was born on January 9, 1963, at Harlem Hospital in New York City, New York, to Clarkie and the late Jerry Munn. He was the oldest of four children. Terry's father was a Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force, and the family traveled the world before settling in Leland, North Carolina, when Terry was 13. He graduated from North Brunswick High School in 1981, where he was a member of the baseball team, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Sociology from Norfolk State University in 1985.

Career
Terry dedicated 41 years of his life to serving his community. His career began as Clean County Environmental Director for Brunswick County, and he later worked for the family business, M&C Cumberland, Inc., where his love of grant writing began. In 1999, he became one of the founding members, alongside his mother and father, of the nonprofit organization Truth In Youth and Family Services, Inc., which served families in Brunswick County and the surrounding area. In 2008, Terry founded his own nonprofit organization, Triangle Empowerment Center, which served families in Durham, Wake, and Orange counties. TEC partnered with organizations such as Duke Health, Alliance, CAARE, UNC Health, and Durham County DHHS, among others. One of Terry's proudest accomplishments came when TEC received a half-million-dollar grant to open a free clinic called TriMed. Colleagues remember him as passionate, loyal, a tireless community advocate, and selfless.

Interests and Community Involvement
Terry was a longtime member of Crystal Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Leland, North Carolina, where he sang in the choir and served on the usher board. He was also a member of Celebration Ministries Lutheran Church in Durham, North Carolina. He loved to cook, loved going to the beach, and was always the life of the party. He started a food bank and organized blood drives, free PrEP testing, Toys for Tots collections, back-to-school drives, and Thanksgiving turkey giveaways, among many other community efforts.

Survivors
Terry is survived by his mother, Mrs. Clarkie Munn; his siblings Tige (Cheryl) Munn of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Nyemekia Munn of Durham, North Carolina; two nephews, Bishop and Leeland Munn; three aunts, Fossie Mae (Duck) Ballard of Leland, North Carolina, Chy Mitchell of Washington, DC, and Sabrina Holden Smalls of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two godchildren, Earl Bradley and Faith Nesbitt; countless cousins whom he cherished as siblings; and dear friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Wayne Munn; his sister, Tonya Munn; his brother, Lloyd Ratcliffe; and his godson, MASN Tevin Robinson.

Services
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13th, from 5:30 - 8:00 P.M.at John H. Shaw's Son Funeral Home in Wilmington. The wake is Friday, August 14th, from 1:00 – 1:50 p.m., with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Salvation and Deliverance Family Worship Center, with burial immediately after at Crystal Spring Cemetery. A celebration of Terry's life will be held at Jerry W. Munn Park in Northwest, NC, following the burial.

Terry's warmth, generosity, and big personality touched everyone he met. He will be remembered not only for what he did for others, but for how he made them feel — seen, loved, and cared for. His legacy will continue through the countless lives he shaped, and he will be profoundly missed.
