Tanisha
Givens
July 12, 1990 – November 17, 2023
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church.
Tanisha Sorroya-Monea Givens was born on May 12, 1990 to Judy Webb and Steven Givens. Tanisha was raised by her father, Steven Givens and her grandparents, Major and Viola Givens. Tanisha was educated in the North Carolina School System, receiving her high school diploma and a Certificate in Culinary Arts, "giving you meals such as "collard soup". During Tanisha's early years she was diagnosed with diabetes, having gone into a diabetic coma just weeks before her baptism. Upon waking up two days later, her first words were "Can I still get baptized"? In 2002, Tanisha was baptized at Mt. Holly Missionary Baptist Church. Having said this is to say she's been His for a long time. In February, 2021, Tanisha became ill with COVID, while she was pregnant. "NeNe" as she was so fondly called, died for 13 minutes and was revived with conditions. Her beloved baby daughter Kyla lived for 30 days. After a long recovery and rehab, Tanisha was able to return to a life that was completely different; a life with kidney disease and heart trouble. But, being the trooper she was, she was able to return to work. She was employed with Accordius Health as Assistant Activity Director and later accepted a position as Director at Cedar Grove Assisted Living and Memory Care. Tanisha loved working with the elderly. She took great pride in being able to interact with her patients. When holidays came around this gave her a reason to cook a dish or have the staff do a pot luck. Tanisha really loved her job. Tanisha was very family oriented. She loved doing activities with her boys as well as her cousins. Tanisha was a well-rounded person. Despite the distance she made sure she had a relationship with her mother and brothers. She loved them dearly. Tanisha was preceded in death by her daughter, Kyla Monae Kirkland Givens and her beloved grandparents, Major and Viola Givens. God in his infinite wisdom on November 16, 2023, deemed it necessary to place this beautiful hydrangea in His heavenly Garden.
