Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

Sammie Lee Thames , son of the late Lee Ernest Thames and Maybell Walters Thames was born on June 8, 1942 in Manning, South Carolina.  Our loving Father called him home to his eternal rest on May 24, 2022.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard Thames. Sammie received his early education in the public schools of New Hanover County and high school education from Williston Senior High. His employment history included Corbett Packing Company, Singer Corporation, General Electric, Holsum Bakery, and Krispy Kreme. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior early in life at Mount Roney Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Sammie was a kindhearted and loving person.  He will be remembered for his quiet and easy-going demeanor.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memories: one brother, Izell Thames of Wilmington, NC (Izell's three daughters and one son); one sister, Martha Thames Fleming (Leon) of Tucson, AZ; nieces, Alisa Fleming and Teresa Fleming-Strickling (Mark); three grandnieces; two aunts, Frances Felder of Johnsonville, SC and Bernice Walters of Baltimore, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
