Obituary

Visitation, Viewing and Honor of Life will be held 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Johnson & Jenkins Funeral Home, 716 Kennedy St NW Washington, D.C.  His viewing and interment will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Calvary Memorial Cemetery, 800 North 11 th Street, Wilmington, NC.

Rudy Robinson, was born on August 10, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C. to the late Agnes Bellamy Robinson and Robert J. Robinson Sr. Rudy passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as siblings Robert Robinson Jr. and Jacqueline D. Robinson. Rudy was 79 years old.  Rudy was educated in New Hanover County schools and graduated from Williston Senior High in 1961. He went on to attend Hampton University (formerly Hampton Institute) where he studied Technology and graduated in 1966. Rudy served in the US Army after graduation. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri) and received letters of commendation for outstanding performance. After honorable discharge, Rudy went on to teach at Florida A&M college and ultimately become an Architect with the United States Veterans Administration where he designed and oversaw the construction of Veterans Hospitals across the country. Rudy held a master's degree in architecture from Catholic University, Washington DC. He retired from the Veterans Administration after more than 20 years. Rudy pursued several passions in his personal and professional life after the VA including real-estate sales, travel, cooking, genealogy and studying US History. Rudy enjoyed a large social group of friends, family and loved ones. He was a respected and trusted person that expressed a light humorous presence and his love for seafood is legendary. Rudy was a proud member of the 1961 Williston Senior High School class and served a term as President of the Hampton University Alumni Association. Rudy was a true engineer and techie. He could fix anything, build anything and he shared his love of science fiction movies with close friends and family. Strong willed, curious, intelligent, caring, and independent describe Rudy's approach to living life. Rudy was known as an inspiration, father figure, uncle, mentor, godfather, and special friend to many. During his adult life Rudy cherished spending time with family both in Wilmington, NC and later in Raleigh NC. During the holiday season he enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner and spending time with brother Bobby, niece Renee and all family members in Raleigh. Rudy is survived by his brother, Robert "Bobby" J. Robinson III, (Lori) and their children, Robert (RJ), Donovan, Maya and Dillon; niece, Elizabeth Renee' Robinson and daughters Beverly and Camille. Rudy held a special place in his heart for dear friend and partner Dorothy Blount. Rudy is survived by Dorothy, Denise, Bill, Renee, Desiree, Jeneva, Kenysha, Tiara, Anthony, Dwayne, Anthony and a host of great-grandchildren. He was known affectionately as grandpa.
