Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church.  Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Rudolph "Magic" Thames was born on August 6, 1959, to the late Randolph Johnson, Sr. and Eastover Thames Johnson in Wilmington, North Carolina.  He was the second oldest child of six children.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Aileen Thames-Price; nephew, Marcus Williams; mother-in-law, Lillian McRae and father-in-law, John McRae. Rudy or Magic, as he was affectionately called, was a 1977 John T. Hoggard High School graduate.  On February 2, 1985, he married Angela McRae.  He was a kindhearted, hard-working, loving husband.  He was a sports enthusiast who watched and played multiple sports.  He was trained at an early age by his father "Captain Randy".  Magic played on various football, softball, baseball, and basketball teams, UFO, Death Valley, Rickey's Sporting Goods, Pedal Cruisers, Bombers, Fire Disco, Seabreeze, and Creekwood, just to name a few.  He also played in the annual Turkey Bowl football games.  Rudy was a member of the International Longshoremen's Association – Local 1426 for ten-plus years.  He was also employed at Beckers Building Supply and The Contractor Yard. Rudy transitioned from earth to eternal life on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  His cherished survivors are: his wife, Angela McRae Thames; son, Teon McRae (Tevesa); two grandchildren, Rudy Tyteona McRae and Jaisiah McRae; goddaughter, Ashley Grant; four brothers, Randolph Johnson, Jr. (Donna), Wayne Johnson, David Johnson, and Lynn Johnson, Sr. (Cynthia); five aunts; Minnie Galloway, Carmelita Thames of Imperial, CA, Frances Elder (Fred), Bettylou Davis, and Mary Terrell of Maxton, NC; three sisters-in-law, Pamela Atwood (Eric), Michelle Ferguson (Charles), and Evette Jones (Andra) of Navarre, FL; brother-in-law, John McRae (Shelia); 22 nieces, 18 nephews, and a host of cousins and many friends.
