Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Shoulders Branch Cemetery, Castle Hayne, NC. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Rose Lee Smith Plummer was born July 30, 1922, in Castle Hayne, North Carolina to the late James and Mittie Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband Grady Plummer and all of her siblings. She had four brothers, James, Harlee, Rufus, and Berda: four sisters, Mittie, Catherine, Estelle, and Inez.
Rose made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She attended school within the New Hanover County School System. At the tender age of 13, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she met and married the love of her life, her soldier Grady Plummer. Rose was a very nurturing mother and military wife that love her family unconditionally. After the untimely death of her beloved Grady, Rose moved back to North Carolina with her three young children. She was employed at the Heart of Wilmington Hotel, and later as a domestic caretaker in the Wilmington area. Rose was a phenomenal woman with zeal for her family. There was nothing Rose wouldn't do for her family and friends. As the family matriarch, she made an overwhelming impact on being the biggest supporter of everyone in her family. Rose was proud of where her family came from along with all they had accomplished, and she spent her time instilling those ideal into each generation.
She leaves to cherish her memory with an unimaginable amount of love and respect, one son, Jeffery Plummer and two daughters, Brenda, and Gerldine Plummer. Seven grandchildren: Bryant L. Plummer (Shermaine), Tiffany D. Plummer, Daryl L. Plummer, Dimeeka C. Plummer, Ashley E. Plummer, Amberly R. Plummer, and Brandon L. Plummer. Ten great grandchildren: Malik Davis, Darius Plummer, Javonne Davis, Darius Jones, Savion Plummer, Jordon Plumer, Aniya Plummer, Xavier Murphy, Micaela Elijah, and Amir Elijah. Five great-great grandchildren: Skylan Davis, Greyson Davis, Lennox Plummer, J'Ainni Davis, and Kaison Davis. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
