On Saturday, September 6, 2025, Rebia Hobbs was called home to be with the Lord. Rebia was born on May 30, 1950, to the late Rosa Lee Davis and the late Macy Grady. Her life was marked by love, faith, and service, touching the lives of many along the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Rosa Lee Davis and the late Macy Grady; her brother, Gerald Davis; and her grandson, Steven Grady. Her beloved son, Eric Hobbs, also entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2025. Rebia grew up in the Rock Hill community of Castle Hayne, North Carolina. She was educated in New Hanover County Schools and graduated with the Class of 1969 from New Hanover High School, a milestone she always carried with pride. To know Rebia was to know love. She had the heart of an angel, and her smile could light up any room she entered. Her life reflected a spirit of grace and compassion — always willing to see the best in others and extend a hand when someone was in need. Family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into them with unwavering devotion. She also found peace and beauty in tending to her flowers and plants, nurturing them with the same care she gave to the people around her. A natural caregiver at heart, Rebia touched countless lives with kindness, generosity, and an open embrace. That same spirit of care could be seen in how she devoted herself to her brother, Gerald, showing a sister's faithful love as she cared for him until his passing. Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of St. James AME Church in Castle Hayne, North Carolina, she served faithfully and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her walk with Christ was evident in the way she lived, as if echoing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). She leaves behind a testimony of faith, love, and service that will not be forgotten. Rebia was no stranger to hard work and dedication. For many years, she was employed with Century Mills, where she worked faithfully and built lasting relationships. Later, her caring nature led her to Hermitage House Assisted Living, where she found joy in serving others. She remained there through the transition to Castle Creek Memory Care, continuing to serve with compassion and commitment until her retirement. Rebia's greatest treasures were her family, who carry forward the love and lessons she poured into them. She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Shanta Hobbs and Crystal Hobbs, both of Castle Hayne, NC, whom she shared with her former husband, Carol Hobbs; her grandchildren, Shan Hobbs, Zoey Hobbs, Kenyen Nixon, Z'hane Whitted, and D'On McFadden; and her great-grandchildren, Berkeley McFadden, Sony Hobbs, and Noah Hobbs. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Lawrence of Wilmington, NC, her aunts, Audrey Collins (John) of St. Mary's, GA; Vivian Smith of Wilmington, NC; Gwendolyn Stringfield of Wilmington, NC; and Gennie Davis of Castle Hayne NC, her special aunt, Arlene Grady of Castle Hayne, NC; her uncles, Frederick Davis (Patricia) of Castle Hayne, NC, and Thomas Davis (Mary; of Yakima, WA; her special friend, Franklin Redd; and special family friend, Lewis Whitted. She will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Yet even in this time of sorrow, her family finds comfort in knowing that "the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
