Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service on Thursday.

Queen Ester Thames , daughter of Wilson Deal Simmons and the late Queenester Simmons was born on January 2, 1949, in Florence County, South Carolina.  She departed this earthly life on September 1, 2022.  Queen Ester was educated in the New Hanover County School System, graduating from Williston Senior High School.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, and planting flowers.  She loved children and encouraged them to do positive things in life.  Queen Ester was married to Richard Thames who preceded her in death.  She was a wonderful wife, daughter and sister who will be greatly missed.  In addition to her mother and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Rosa Sims and Mary Louise Gee; her brothers-in-law, James Porter and Stevie Gee and stepmother, Hattie Simmons.  Queen Ester leaves to cherish fond memories: her father, Wilson Deal Simmons of the home; her sisters, Shirley Foxe (Ray) of Charlotte, NC, Beverly Ann Porter of Port Royal, SC and Augusta Elizabeth Simmons of Hilton Head, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
