Queen Owl departed this life on March 28, 2025, at the age of 78. A widower, and a longtime resident of Wilmington, North Carolina. Queen was born on February 22, 1947. She is one of the beloved children of the late Mammie Hammett Levy and Marion Levy. She is also predeceased by her son Sheriff "Hot Rod" Al-Bey, two brothers Lee Ernest and Jesse and her sister Clara Mea "Baby Doll" Levy. Queen attended elementary school in Wilmington, North Carolina and graduated from Williston High School. Although Queen took various college courses, her excitement for life and zeal for learning many, many things made her a life learner and self-study person. Queen held a strong connection to community service and duty to mankind. Her humanity was shaped by the loss of her mother at a young age, and the drowning of her sister. The manner in which the community gathered around Queen's father and her siblings left an indelible mark. That mark was demonstrated by her loving kindness and charity towards others no matter what walk of life they came from. A Certified Master Gardener, Queen found joy in cultivating both the land and the lives of those around her. Queen is survived by her three children: Zaru "George" Bey, Ingrid Segar (Keith Starling) and Sigmund Segar. Two siblings, Mary Levy and Catherine Stukes. Twelve great grandchildren and a host of extended family. Queen's love, kindness, mercy and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A woman of many gifts, skills and an immeasurable heart, Queen lived a full and varied life. She truly left an enduring memorial on all those who crossed her path. We are not a people without a hope, for in the hand of God, there is life, death, and resurrection. Queen Owl, certified master gardener, is now with the Savior of the resurrection in his garden not made by hands. She dwelleth with Him amongst Heaven's Lilies. Farewell, farewell, farewell! You will be greatly missed, but God knows best.
