Persalle Gause was born on May 11, 1956, in Shallotte, North Carolina to the late Hollins Gause and Carrie G. Stanley. He was the youngest of five children and attended Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church growing up. He had many interests during his early life and loved having his older siblings to grow up with. He graduated from Shallotte High School in 1974 and went on to enlist in the U.S. Army. Shortly after he joined, he chose a different path leaving the military and relocating to New York where he lived for several years. His mechanical, troubleshooting, and electric wiring skills landed him work as an elevator installer/mechanic and other repair-related jobs. He relocated back home to North Carolina in the late 80s and eventually began working at Sunny Point. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed watching sports, telling stories for laughs, playing bingo and checking in with local family members and friends who he would visit. Despite becoming ill during the latter part of his life, he continued to stay connected with family and friends by calling on major holidays, birthdays, or sometimes for no occasion at all. His presence in all our lives will be sorely missed. He was a loving husband to his wife, proud father, grandfather, a loving brother to his siblings, a one-of-a-kind uncle to his nieces and nephews, and a kind friend to those in his social circle. His sense of humor, warm spirit and caring heart are also what he'll be remembered for. He was a longtime resident of Wilmington, NC and in December 2019, he married his companion, Joyce, and beamed with joy when his family and hers helped him celebrate their union. For the last six years he has been a member of Enoch Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. While Persalle left us far too soon, the impact that he had on his family, friends, and others who knew him will be felt for years to come. He will be deeply missed. With fond and very loving memories, he leaves to cherish: a devoted wife, Joyce Gause; two sons from previous relationships, Jermaine Frink (Nyehema) of Longwood, NC and Jovar Stroman of New York; two grandchildren, Jaior and Nyemia; three stepchildren, Pamela Walker (Robert), Leslie Smyre (Terrence) and James Smyre, Jr. (Sharonda); six step-grandchildren and four step-great-grands; his brother, Dr. Roger L. Gause (Nadine) of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Sylane Chestnut (Earl) of Tabor City, NC and Wanda Sinclair (Cornelius) of Leland, NC; three brothers-in-law, Winford Griffin (Ann), Ernest Griffin (Emma), and Dwight Griffin; three sisters-in-law, Sheridan Jackson (Pete), Nancy Slater and Janice Oakley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Persalle a son, brother, father, husband left this world on Wednesday, February 21, 2023, slipped into eternal rest surrounded by family at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
