Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Union Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Melvin Thomas Nixon of 902 Grathwol Drive, Wilmington, NC, was born on September 8, 1950, to the late Iola Jenkins. He departed this life on February 7, 2023, where he was welcomed by his father, Emingo Nixon, mother, Iola Jenkins and brother, David Jenkins, Jr, all who preceded him in death. Melvin spent 21 years in the United Stated Air Force, serving his country. He was stationed at various Air Force Bases, prior to serving in Vietnam. Melvin received many medals, badges, and ribbons: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Campaign Stars and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster. Melvin retired from BB&T Bank. He then began employment at Wave Transit for 10 years. Melvin was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He was well-known for his sense of humor and kind words. He had a joyful spirit and welcomed everyone with open arms. Mr. Melvin Thomas Nixon leaves to cherish his precious memories: wife, Bettie Ann Nixon, Wilmington, NC; son, Andre' Demond Nixon, Wilmington, NC, brother, Kenneth Ray Nixon, sister, Valencia Haizlip, High Point, NC, brother-in-law, Harry James Lyde (Evelyn), Wilmington, NC, sister-in-law, Yvonne Lyde (Abram, Deceased), grandchildren; Desia Hayes, Kenyen Nixon, adopted grandchildren; Jalen Hayes, DeLaina Merrideth, god sister, Evangelist Sarah Rogers, special friends; Pam Sheppard, Sandra Flowers, WAVE Co-Workers, Cheryl Gregg, Yolanda Bowens. There are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
