Mr. Michael McCants, age 68, of Wilmington, North Carolina, departed this earthly life in Chicago, Illinois of natural causes on 11 January 2024. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many, both near and far. He was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on 23 November 1955 to the late Mr. Loris McCants, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Taylor McCants, and was the fifth born of the seven sons. Michael graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1974 before joining the United States Navy. He honorably served our nation for six years, completed his military obligation and used his G.I. Bill to complete college courses at Cape Fear Community College. Later Michael became a Fire Fighter and Paramedic with the Wilmington Fire Department. Thereafter, he became a Merchant Marine for the Department of Defense for several decades until retirement. In the later season of his life, Michael moved to Chicago, Illinois and reconnected with his cousin Ms. Terry Johnson, her son Robert Garrett and her granddaughter Ava. Michael married Patricia Flowers-McCants and they enjoyed life together until she transitioned into the afterlife. In Chicago, he became a caregiver to his aunt, Mrs. Bertie Johnson-Harris, as well as other senior patients until he transitioned into the afterlife. In addition to his parents, Michael was also preceded in death his brothers: Alonzo McCants (#2), Roland McCants (#3), and Reginald McCants (#6); his lovely wife, Mrs. Patricia Flowers-McCants; his granddaughter, Heavenleigh Mosley; and his grandson, Stephen Ezekiel Green. Michael leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Michelle Eboni Sunshyne McCants-Lewis and son-in-law Antawyn Lewis; his daughter, Alicson Denise McCants; the mother of his children, Ms. Alice Mae Little; his beloved brothers, Loris McCants, Jr. (#1) and wife Darla, Jerome Ricky McCants, Sr. (#4), and Anthony Andre McCants (#7); sister-in-law, Delores Shaw; sister-in-love, Andrea Griffin (#8); his nieces, Rayniece McCants and Cynthia White; his nephews, Jerome Ricky McCants, Jr. and Solomon McCants; his grandchildren, Khyla Olivia Williams (20), Kamille Omani Williams (16), Jordan Nathaniel Mosley (16), and Kamdyn Deyon Lewis (2); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family who will truly miss him.
