Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 16, 2024, at St. Stephen AME Church, Scotts Hill Community. Burial will follow in the Pollock Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Mercedes Spicer entered eternal rest, with our heavenly Father at age 67. Mercedes was born on December 12, 1956, in Wilmington NC to Joseph and Odessa Spicer. She was raised in Wilmington, North Carolina and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1975. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 47 years. After taking care of other loved ones, she retired on November 11, 2023, to enjoy being with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Stephen AME Church in the Scotts Hill Community. She was a faithful member that served as the Treasurer for the church and always attended Sunday School. She enjoyed helping in community events, shopping, and cooking her famous Pig Picking Cake. One of her favorite songs is "Break Every Chain". Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Odessa Spicer and her sister Juanita Brown. Mercedes was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Derrick (Shug) Spicer and daughter-in-law, Tanishia Spicer of Willow Spring, NC; Grandsons, Donte Spicer and Arron Spicer of Willow Spring, NC; Granddaughter, Mia Fowler of Raleigh NC; Great grandsons, Milo Battle and Maxton Battle of Willow Spring, NC; her sister, Ida (Punny) Spicer of Wilmington, NC, and her brother, Anthony (Fat Boy) Spicer (wife Michelle Spicer) of Raleigh, NC; her nieces, Shamara Spicer of Wilmington, NC, Mylea Spicer, and Miya Spicer of Raleigh, NC; her nephews, Anthony Spicer Jr. (wife Jessica Spicer) of Zebulon, NC and Ashari Spicer of Raleigh, NC; great nieces, Shamiya Spicer of Wilmington, NC, Carlee Jackson and Josie Spicer of Zebulon, NC; great nephew, Amari Spicer of Wilmington, NC; special aunts, Dorothy McIntyre of New York, NY and Mary London of Hampstead, NC; special cousin, Debra (Meme) Spicer of Wilmington, NC and Phyllis Jones of Hampsted NC; special friends, Bonnie Murray of Wilmington, NC, Stacey Boykin of Wilmington, NC, Ricky Lee of Wilmington, NC, Louise Foy of Wilmington, NC and Marcella Garrett of Wilmington, NC.
