Medgar was unforgettable; his remarkable ability to evoke laughter, share unfiltered truths, and outwork nearly anyone in the room left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Medgar received his education in the New Hanover County School System, graduating from New Hanover High School in 1981. From a young age, he exhibited the vibrant personality and confidence that became his hallmark. Those close to him cherished his love for laughter and fun. His laughter was loud, genuine, and infectious. At his core, Medgar was an exceptional car mechanic—not merely someone who repaired vehicles, but someone with a profound understanding of them. He could diagnose any issue with unwavering confidence and took great pride in his work, consistently striving for excellence. Medgar embodied the value of hard work, not just discussing it but living it. Whether in construction or his most recent role at Aloft Downtown, he consistently delivered his best, earning praise for the quality and reliability of his contributions. Medgar was never one to shy away from speaking his mind. There was no need to second-guess his thoughts; he was always genuine and straightforward. Raised in the church by his beloved mother, Medgar had a strong Biblical foundation. As scripture reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it". In due time, he returned to these early teachings, being baptized and remaining a devoted member of Light of the World Ministries, where he diligently cared for the church grounds. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Delores Murphy White, and his grandparents, Annie Mae Brinson and Charlie Brinson. Medgar leaves behind treasured memories with his daughter, Timika Shantel Murphy; his son, Torry Fields; and his grandson, Zyion Murphy Black, who brought immense joy to his life. Medgar cherished their bond, which was unmistakable to everyone who observed it, He is also survived by his beloved cousins, Stephanie Murphy—who was like a second mother to him—Carl Murphy, and NaKia Hill Robbins, along with many family members and friends who held him in deep affection. A man with a heart of gold, Medgar was always willing to give selflessly. He was kind, hard-working, loving, and remained genuine to the very end. His laughter, honesty, and presence will be remembered forever.
