McIver Grant McCrimmon made his heavenly arrival on June 2, 2024. He was born in Hebron, South Carolina. Mac, as he was more popularly known, was the son and the 8th child of 11 of the late Neal and Annie McIver McCrimmon. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 69 years, Marvis Waddell McCrimmon, and survived by his two children daughter, Deborah Anne McCrimmon and son, M. Ricardo McCrimmon. Mac was inducted into the United States Army in March 1951 and was stationed in France throughout his tour of duty. He was discharged from active duty in February 1953. Mac continued his love for his country and served in the United States Army Reserve until his honorable discharge in February 1979 as Sergeant First Class. Over his work career, Mac had several jobs but the one he loved the most was at E.I duPont deNemours and Company. For over 20 years, he was a hard worker and dedicated employee. He was so dedicated that his family didn't see him for over a week during the Great Snowstorm of 1989. He slept at the plant on cots to ensure the plant continued running during the snowstorm. He was recognized as a hero by the company for his efforts. After leaving duPont in December of 1992, Mac decided to become more active and involved in the community but really so he wouldn't be under the feet of his wife, Marvis. For many years Mac participated in the Meals On Wheels Program providing for those who were shut in. He later found his niche when he worked as the building manager at the Family Neighborhoods Institute NC. He got the opportunity to work with young kids to enhance their knowledge through after school educational programs. Mac was a member of several community organizations. He was raised as a Master Mason in April 1968 at Hanover Lodge No.14 which later merged with Giblem Lodge No.2 Free and Accepted Masons Prince Hall Affiliated. He was also a member of the Wilmington Consistory #63 and the Habib Temple #159 A.E.O.N.M.S. PHA. The Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church family was an integral part of Mac's life. This is why he gave back. For many years Mac served as a Trustee to the church. He was a prolific church goer and rarely missed any event that the church had. In addition to his children, left to continue his loving memory are his nieces, Belinda Quick, Helen Kale, Evonne Atkins, Marsee Waddell, Ruchadina Waddell; his nephews, Cornelius Waddell, Guy Waddell, Kevin Waddell, Cedric Waddell, Rudolph Waddell and Craig Waddell; cousin, Magnolia McLean; goddaughter, Brielle Gainer; parents of his goddaughter, LTC (Ret.) Kevin and Sheryce Bibbs Gainer; sister-in law, Ruth Weaver Waddell and a host of friends and grand nieces and nephews.
