Face Coverings Are Still Required to Enter the Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Maykayla Shaniya Gibbs was born on March 29, 2006.  God closed her eyes and gave her rest on August 31, 2023.  Maykayla was a bright and cheerful student.  She was educated in the New Hanover County Public School System where she attended Gregory Elementary, Williston Middle, and J.T. Hoggard High School.  She was very smart and made sure she maintained good grades.  As a Junior in high school Maykalya loved to dance, do hair, and make TikTok videos.  She had so much love for life.  All her friends would agree that she was very playful and goofy.  Her smile lit up any room she walked into.  She cherished the time she spent with her loving daughter.  Maykayla was a great mom who was very hands on with her baby girl.  Her light and love will live on through her daughter and loving family.  Maykayla leaves to cherish her memories:  Her precious daughter, Kanyri Gibbs; mother, Toni Gibbs; father, Stanley Scott (Terri); sisters, Sadiya Gibbs, Kintara Scott, Hannah Willis, Vivian Shaw; brothers, Montez Gibbs, William Baker, Trenton Gibbs, Javon Baker, Kinta Allen-Scott, Montrell Baldwin, Marcus Scott, Marquis Hall, Trevon Willis, and Nicholas Shaw; grandmothers, Sylvia Gibbs and Shyann Scott; grandfathers, Albert Rush and Charlene Batts; aunts, Monica Gibbs and Shonnette Scott; uncles, Mark Gibbs, Derrick Gibbs, Terri Mears, Timothy Poinsette; nieces, Kennedi Gibbs and Kali Gibbs; nephews, Jamere Gibbs and Trenton Gibbs; godmother, Sabrina McClain; god sister, Avery Sellars; God aunts, Alexis Sellars, Jasmine Henry and Tiandra Aikens; special friends, Destiny Mullins and Amelia Neason; and a host of cousins and friends.
