Maxzine Ruth Dixon Utley was born December 15, 1957, and peacefully answered the Master's call on Saturday, December 10, 2022. She is proceeded in death by her parents the late King Frank Dixon and Martha Ruth Taylor Dixon, a brother, Andrew Taylor, her loving husband of 45 years, Bishop James Utley, Jr., and her adoring son, Tige Utley.
Education
Maxzine, was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina and was the baby girl of seven children. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1974. Education was important to Maxzine and she continued her studies at Cape Fear Community College and went on to receive her Doctorate in Theology from Justice.
Ministry
Together Apostle Utley and Bishop Utley answered their call into ministry and started The Love Center Church in 1987. Both were later elevated to the office of Bishop and Apostle under the late Bishop Daniel White and Apostle Shirley C. White of the Holiness Church of the Living God, in Apalachicola, Fl.
Maxzine was a hard worker and an entrepreneur at heart. She most recently retired from the Wilmington Transit Authority as a supervisor. Maxzine and Bishop Utley were also the proud owners of several businesses, the Fisherman's Net restaurant, Dollar Heaven and CLI Radio featuring, WWIL Gospel Joy 1490 AM and WLTT Old School R&B and News and Talk Radio.
Precious Memories
In her spare time, Maxzine loved baking and made the best sweet potato pies and homemade candy for her children. She treasured a special relationship with her daughter's mother-in-law Doris Nixon. She also had a special bond with Brenda and Gail who would often have sleepovers and stay up all night enjoying their "girl time" together.
Maxzine leaves to cherish her heartfelt memories a loving daughter, Arielle Utley Nixon, and son-in-law, Fred Nixon, three grandsons, Edwin, Dandrell, and Fredrich. One granddaughter, Ta'Nyla Maxzine, and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Xiomora, Five sisters, Shirley Shavers, Joanne Dion, both of Wilmington, Faye Spires, Fayetteville, NC, Gail Nixon, Mobile, AL, and Brenda Jenkins of Wilmington. One sister-in-law, Jenita Utley, two brothers-in-law, Walter Utley and Ronald (Peewee) Utley, and Uncle John Utley, New York. Three family members held a special place in her heart – Uncle Andrew Redd, a special nephew, Torrence Dixon, niece, Adrian Dixon and two loving caregivers, Pamela Grady, Lashauna Parker, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
