Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at New Beginning Christian Church.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is from5:30-8:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mathew Lemon, "aka Mackie", was born April 4, 1957, in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Mr. Willie Joe Lemon and Mrs. Sadie Lemon-Lloyd. He departed his life on October 30, 2022.  Mathew attended and graduated from New Hanover public schools.  His early employment was at Pepsi Corporation.  Mathew served two years in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne, jumping out of planes. Mathew refereed all sports for 32+ years for which he received the Outstanding Service Award from the East Carolina Football Officials Association in 2015. He retired from the Wilmington Housing Authority after many years of service.  His hobbies included fishing, decorating his house, dancing, computer work, and gardening. Mathew was an entrepreneur and engineer.  For "Mackie" family came first.  He cherished his wife Joan for 43 loving years, his children, and grandchildren.  "Mackie" was hardworking, caring, outgoing, and a friendly person.  He would give you the shirt off his back. In addition to his parents, Mackie preceded in death by grandson, Zieyah Wade; his brother, Charlie (Carol) Lemon and his brother-in-law, Richard Galley. He leaves to cherish very fond memories: his wife, Joan Lemon of the home; 3 daughters, Dremika Lemon, Keyana Lemon, and Kisha Wade all of Wilmington, NC; 1 sister, Celestine Galley of Wilmington, NC;  sister-in-law, Bishop Linda Pitt (Jessie Pitt) of Stafford, Va.; brothers-in-law, Vita (Cynthia) Stukes of Stafford, VA, Michael (Kimberly) Clinton of Smyrna, TN, and Wilbur Clinton of Wilmington, NC;10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other family. He also shared with special friends: Mike Brown, Isaiah Tomlin, Ronald Smith, Doug Carlos and the Hillcrest Hawks.
