Mary Martin Pugh McClammy affectionately called "Lee", was the oldest of seven children born to the late Joe Martin, Sr. and Katie Black Martin of Clarendon County, South Carolina. She was born on June 7, 1931 and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Mary was educated in the Clarendon County School System. Accepting Christ at an early age, she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Silver, South Carolina where she served through song. She loved to sing. Her favorite song was "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross". As time moved on she relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina. Upon arrival her first job was private duty for the Browning Family. From there, she was the first Black employee of Colorcraft Camera Shop, downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Anything you wanted to know about a camera, she was the one. From there she went on to do private duty for the Browning and Boney families of Wilmington. They showed and gave her so much love. We thank them for that. "Ms. Mary" or "Ms. Pugh" as she was so lovingly called was loved by people far and near. She loved God and she loved her family, but most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. She was known as "The Hat Lady". God blessed her with being the mother of five children, of which three proceeded her in death.
