Obituary

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Hampton Inn; 2320 S. 17th Street.

Mary Jane Harris Jackson, affectionately known as "Boots", was born January 9, 1952, on Hart Avenue in Trenton, New Jersey, to the late Adeline Davis and James Matthew Harris.  On February 7, 2026, she transitioned peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, entrepreneurship, humor, and unwavering devotion to family. Mary was the devoted wife of 50 years to Rudolph L. Jackson.  Their union was rooted in commitment, resilience, and deep love.  He lovingly called her "Munkey," while she called him "Mucker"- a reflection of the playful bond they shared. She was a mother in every sense of the word – not only to the five children she gave birth to, but to many whose lives she nurtured, guided, corrected, and embraced as her own. Those who carry her love forward, listed in no particular order include: Tracy Harris Rivera, Antonio Rivera, Prince Jones, Candice Butler Jones, Derrick Howard, Joanie Howard, Re-Ja Jackson Dunbar, Terry Dunbar, Ra'sheda Jackson, Robert Lewis, Rudolph Lewis, Sharon Gause, Pamela Johnson Rivenbark, David Rivenbark, Charles Jackson, Jennifer Jackson, Ebony Jackson, Raymond Jackson, Randell Jackson, Vanessa Green, Nicole Thomas, Terrence Smith, and Johneen Smith. Affectionately known as "Nanna", she was a proud grandmother to over 40 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Her hugs were unmatched – warm when you needed comfort and firm when you need correction. Mary is proceeded by her siblings: Florence Brown, Adeine Stakehouse, and Hazel Thomas.  Leaving behind are: Sandy Summers, Bernard Summers, Benjamin Summers, and Ira Summers. A standing member of St. Paul AME Zion Church in Trenton, New Jersey, Mary's faith was foundational. Psalm 27 was her favorite scripture, and she spent countless hours in her prayer closet interceding for her family.  She served faithfully on various church boards and was a member of the SALI Praise Dance Team, led by her daughters, Ra'sheda Jackson and Re'Ja Jackson Dunbar.  Using her self-taught gift of sewing, she supported church members and patrons whenever there was a need. Mary was a caretaker, entrepreneur, and visionary.  She founded Liberty Home Care, pouring her compassion into those who required assistance.  She also operated her sewing business, Martra, and co-owned Jac-Fam Advertising Distributing. Despite having to end her formal education early, she was adamant that her children pursue and complete theirs. Family was her passion.  She loved sewing, cooking, and creating moments.  From early Saturday morning cleaning routines to church on Sundays.  She built structure and stability in her home.  At just 4' 11 ½", her presence filled every room.  When Mary spoke, you listened—and if you tested her boundaries, you learned quickly. She had a sharp wit and an unforgettable sense of humor.  Playing the dozens with Mommy meant you'd better come prepared—her comebacks were legendary.  She loved authentic African art and culture and made it her mission to pour that appreciation into others.  She delighted in family talent shows, being apart of the Nigerian Nightmare wrestling entourage, tending to her Common Green Iguana Tyeclemsue, caring for her Rottweilers, and hosting holiday feast and spontaneous Saturday cookouts that often ran into Sunday morning.  Her kitchen was the heart of the home and second helpings were expected. To the world she was Boots – the caretaker, entrepreneur, and seamstress.  To her family she was Mommy – the jokester, the prankster, the queen of the kitchen, the foundation builder.  She established rules, structure, and boundaries, but she also gave unmatched love, support, and laughter. Mary Jane Harris Jackson was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.  Her physical presence will be deeply missed, but the strength, foundation, faith, humor, and beautiful memories she created will continue to guide her family forward.  The unbreakable foundation she and Roudolph built will stand for generations.  As we celebrate the life of our Queen, we honor her legacy by carrying her spirit, her standards, her love, and her laughter with us every day.
