Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. James AME Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6-8:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Marion Murphy, Jr, 78 entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 19, 2022, in the comfort of his home.
"Uncle Plute", "Uncle Murph", and "Papa Smurf" as he was affectionately called by family and friends was born in Pineland, SC on November 22, 1944, to the late Marion Murphy, Sr., and Dora Simmons. After the death of his parents , his sister, the late Elizabeth Simmons-Glover, and her husband raised him. He was preceded in death by his son Maurice Murphy, sister Izetta Polite, brother, Rodell Glover, brother, James, Jr. Glover and brother, Tyrone Glover.
Marion received his education in the Jasper County School System, in SC. He later moved to New York City, where he worked for the United States Postal Service and NYC Transit. During that time, he met the love of his life, the late Vernetta Carr Murphy, with this union they became the proud parents of seven children.
After moving to North Carolina, he worked for Roger Moore Brick Company until he retired.
Marion attended Shoulders Branch Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a faithful member and served on the Usher and Trustee Board. He later joined the Senior and Male Choir.
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys (he was a true Cowboys Fan) and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Marion leaved behind a wife, Annie Lewis Murphy; and a loving legacy to carry on his name, one son Sammy (Balinda) Castle Hayne, NC; Five daughters: Angela Carr, Cranford, New Jersey; Regina Johnson (Robert) Castle Hayne, NC; Sharon Patterson (Lester), Wilmington, N.C; Gwen Miller (David), Castle Hayne, NC; Sylvia Howard (Warren) Ogden, UT; one grandson whom he raised as his very own, Corey Johnson (Porscha) Wilmington, NC.
Twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
One brother, Ricky Glover; Pineland, SC: Six sisters, Catherine Brantley, Newark, NJ; Wilma Pinkney (Raymond), Orange Park, FL; Thelma Garvin, Pineland, SC, Eldora Lee (Pineland, SC; Karen Glover (Lewis), Washington, DC; Linda Newton (Chester) Ridgeland, SC.
Two brothers-in-law, Ernest Carr, (Rosalyn) Brooklyn, NY; Donald Banks, Reddick, FL; five sisters-in-law, Addie Lacewell (Clarence) Rocky Point, NC; Joyce Johnson (Thomas) Rocky Point NC; Daisy Cooper, Wilson, NC; Gwen Carr, Staten Island, NY and Peggy Murray, Wilmington, NC.
A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marion loved all his nephews, but had three nephews that were very dear to him, Laverne Carr, Lewis Henderson, and the late Gregory Carr.
One special cousin, but was more like a son, Jeremiah Peoples.
