Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Summerville AME Zion Church, Leland, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Lula Mae Grady Bristow (81), of Leland, NC passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. Born January 10, 1944, in Leland, North Carolina, the daughter of Lonnie and Annie Mae Grady. Lula Grady, also known as "Sister," to friends and family. Lula graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962 and soon became the proud parent of her first child Edith Grady. Shortly after high school, she moved to Newburgh, New York where she met and married Willie Bristow, Jr. Seven additional children were born, Willie Bristow, Ill, Harvey Bristow, Synella McMillian, Tonette Freeman, Joyce Bristow, Kevin Bristow (deceased at birth), and Christina Bristow (deceased at birth). Lula had a love for learning and would later in life return to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She especially loved spending time with her family, working on her puzzle books, gardening, and crafting. Remaining to cherish Lula's memory are her children, Edith Grady (Ray), Willie Bristow, Ill (Roma), Harvey Bristow (Tracy), Synella McMillian, Tonette Freeman and Joyce Bristow; grandchildren, LaShona Ballard (Ronnie), Trevon Grady, Andre' Davis, Tamesha Hooper (Terry), Joelle Bristow, Faith Bristow, Tiffany Bristow, Harvey Miles Bristow, Jr, LaToya Hansley (Eraun), Tarell McMillian, Joshua McMillian (Camila), Kaylyn Freeman, Herbert Freeman, Ill, Kierra Freeman, Andre' Fullwood, Jr, and Dauve' Smith; her sisters Johnnie Mae Darden, Cassandra Grady, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and cousins, including a special cousin Marie Balloon, and friends. Preceding Lula in death are her parents Lonnie and Annie Mae Grady, children Kevin and Christina Bristow, eight brothers and two sisters.
