Funeral service will be held 3:00 P.M. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at First Baptist Missionary Church.  Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Wilmington National Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5:30 P.M Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the funeral home.

Lucille McAllister Irving Butler was born January 1,1933, to the late Dock McCallister, Sr and Lena Mae McAllister.  She transitioned from this earthly life on September 5, 2024.  Lucille was educated at the Pender County Training School.  She joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.  She married her first husband and to this union Larry D. Simmons was born.  She relocated to Wilmington in the early 60's and was employed at Powell's Place where she cooked and showed off her country's culinary skills.  She met and married Emmett Irving and to this union she was blessed with two loving children, Barry and Carol.  She joined First Baptist Missionary Church in the 70's and became an active member.  Lucille remarried in 1990 to Herbert Butler until his death in 2001.  She was employed with Eldercare as a Nursing Assistant and caregiver to many, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and a President's Club Avon Representative for over 40 years.  She retired at the age of 62. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouses, her son Larry D. Simmons, her siblings Dorothy, Charles, John, Douglas, Eddie, Dock Jr., Glenn and her son-in-law Darrell Clinton.  She leaves to cherish fond memories: her children Barry Irving, and Carol Clinton, grandchildren, Marcella Kealon, Orlando Simmons, Courtney Clinton (Vanessa), Carissa Jennings (David), Cameron Clinton (Carmen), Fantasia Simmons, Tyjuan Simmons, Miracle Simmons, and Russell James, 13 great grands, 7 great great-grands, one brother Ivey McAllister (Anne), sisters-in-law Betty McAllister, Marilyn McAllister, and Mona McAllister, two special friends Beverly Saunders and Michael Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
