Funeral service will be 12:30 P.M. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Shaw Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.  Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service (12:00 Noon until 12:30. P.M) on Thursday at the funeral home.

Linda Wallace Cheek, 81, of Wilmington, North Carolina, went peacefully to her heavenly home while at Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Born on Valentine's Day which symbolizes love; February 14, 1944, in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was the youngest daughter of the late Oscar Wallace Cheek and Wilhelmina Cheek. Linda graduated from Williston Industrial High School and later graduated from Winston State University, Winston Salem, North Carolina. She began her noble career as an educator teaching in Buckingham County School System in Dillwyn, Virginia, and in the school systems of Pender and New Hanover County. Linda was an avid reader and her love of books prompted her to pursue a degree in Library Science. She attained a Master's Degree in Library Science July 1985. During her youthful years she became a member of Gregory Congregational United Church of Christ. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Historian and launched and directed Gregory's tutorial program for many years. She served faithfully as a member of the Gregorites, an auxiliary dedicated to enhancing and promoting the betterment of the church as a whole. Linda was committed and responsible while assisting with the tutorial program at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She promoted annual Book Fairs at Gregory Church. Her vision was to teach children to be successful in school as well as succeed in life. She remained dedicated to her Christian endeavors until the end of her earthly life. Linda's love and cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: her brother, Michael Cheek; her sister, Gwendolyn Cheek; her dear cousins, Doris Peters, Rose Williams, and Ida King; as well as her treasured friends, Jannetta Kea-Robinson, Caren Gordon, Gwendolyn McKoy-Webb, Shelia McRae, and Paula Pittman. Their lives have been immeasurably enriched by her kindness, wisdom and unwavering spirit of love and commitment.
