Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 13, 2024, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 719 Walnut Street. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, our family circle was broken when "Bo" Leroy Alford Jr. was called home to be with the Lord. He was born on June 8th, 1935, in Lamar South Carolina to late Leroy Alford Sr. and Wessie Lee Enoch-Alford. He graduated from Williston High School and studied to be an electrician at Cape Fear Tech. In 1954 he joined the United States Navy where he served honorably for 20 years and raised to the rank of Chief Gunners Mate. On November 25th, 1963, he was given the honor of performing the 21-gun salute in memory of President John F. Kennedy. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Charles Alford and Carlton Alford, and two sisters, Essie Alford and Leola Alford. Leroy was a devoted husband to his wife Daisy Lee James-Alford for 44 years who preceded him in death on February 9th, 2014. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Dr. Wesley M. Alford; his daughter, Scherrie Deneen Cowell (Kent); he was blessed with three grandsons, Courtney R. Coffer, (Mia), James R Gober, and Babatunde' Alford; three granddaughters, Alicia Diggs, Kamila Horton (Julius) and Folashade Alford; seven great-grandchildren; a special niece, Latesha Jones; a special nephew, Naxavier Jones; a special friend, Icie Anderson and a host of relatives and friends.
