Kevin Lamont Moore (affectionately known as Scooter) was born on September 21, 1975, in Wilmington, North Carolina and raised in his hometown of Southport by the late John Gilbert Moore, Sr, (Sonny) and the late Addie Swain Moore.  A longtime resident of Southport, Scooter graduated from South Brunswick High School in 1994 and went on to follow his basketball dreams and was the first person signed to the Brunswick Community College Dolphins. In 2004 Scooter met the love of his life, Chilaya Moore, who he married in 2007. They moved to Wilmington where they, with their children, built a life and community of loving friends that they consider family. Although Scooter battled kidney disease, having had two kidney transplants and being on and off of dialysis for decades, he continued to find deep meaning in working with people. He was able to use his gifts of compassion and humanity while working at DaVita of Wilmington and Carolina Dunes of Leland. Later, he found a sense of community and purpose working with his beloved wife at Michael's Seafood. Scooter was an avid Duke Basketball fan, combining his love for the sport and his loyalty to Duke Med after receiving much of his medical care there over the years. He loved music, traveling with his family, and cutting up with his family and friends. He enjoyed dancing, cookouts and attending any type of live sporting event. He had a passion for people, in general.  He was a light in this world and you could often find him laughing in the corner, bringing levity and joy to almost any situation. Scooter was a loyal and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, mentor, father figure and friend. Scooter Moore was a quiet, gentle soul who even on the worst days, complained about nothing. Scooter leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in his family: his beloved wife and soul mate, Chilaya Moore; his son, Kibarake (KB) Vondrak; his daughter, Mahaliyah Andrews; sisters, Jo Karen Moore (Steve) of Los Alamos, New Mexico and Martha Moore Cobbs of Shallotte, NC; brothers, Robert Wesly Moore of Leland, NC and David Leroy Moore II (Bonita) of Wilmington, NC; aunt, Mary Torres of New Jersey; uncle, Ulysses Slade (Jackie) of Wilmington, NC,  and sister-in-law, Natawsha Vondrak of Wilmington, NC. His love was immeasurable and, in addition to his immediate family, he unconditionally poured into his nine nieces, eleven nephews, six great-nieces and six great-nephews and considered them "like his own kids." Scooter was very proud of his special bond with his nephew Tron Dawson of Southport. Scooter was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Gilbert Moore, Sr, (Sonny) and Addie Swain Moore; sister, Flora Alice Moore; brother, John Gilbert Moore, Jr.; mother-in-law, Kathy Jo Battles, and brother-in-law, Travis Luis Ravelo. The family joyfully remembers a life well lived and have a deep sense of faith and hope that they will all one day be united again in eternal love with their heavenly Father. Until then, Scooter will remain in our hearts and will, most certainly, continue to be our guardian angel.

In lieu of graveside flowers, the family is asking for potted plants to be kept in remembrance of their beloved Scooter.
