Funeral service will be 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.
Kenneth Malloy Dickey, 88, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center. Kenny was born on June 13, 1935, to John B. Dickey, Sr., and Allie Mae Richburg Dickey in Wilmington, North Carolina. He attended Williston Senior High School, "The Greatest School Under the Sun" where he was a superstar basketball player who played alongside Meadowlark Lemon. After graduating from Williston in 1954, Kenny joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country. After leaving the U.S. Air Force, Kenny resided in New York City, and worked at the VA Hospital, the IRS, and later became a successful salesman at B. Altman and Company, before returning to his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina where he worked at the U.S. Post Office. Kenny's journey touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. He was a very proud and independent man who always put God first, and his unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him. Kenneth Malloy Dickey was predeceased by his father, John B. Dickey, Sr.; mother, Allie Mae Richburg Dickey; his sister, Lillian Dickey Robinson; his brothers, John B. (Weaver) Dickey, Sr., Foster Dickey, and Raymond Dickey; and his nephew, Lorenzo "Robbie" Robinson. Kenny is survived by his children and their spouses, Kena (Yolanda) Dickey and Gail (Gregory) Taylor; his grandchildren, Kena Dickey Jr., Andre Cooke, Adrian Marshall, Lorenzo Marshall, Demetrius Trayvon Thomas, and Roland Eduardo Thomas II; great-grandchildren, Bently Marshall, Hazel Marshall, and Emory Nicole Thomas; his brothers, Harold (Helyn) Dickey Sr., and Howard R. (Dorothy-D) Dickey Sr.; his niece, Sharon Dickey; grandniece, Amiya Libingi; grandnephew, Amari Libingi; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. May Kenny rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and may his memory continue to bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
