Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Old Scott's Hill AME Church.  Burial will follow in the Pollock Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30 -8:00 P.M. at Shaw Funeral Home.

On Sunday, March 25, 2024, Kathleen Nixon entered into eternal rest with our heavenly Father at age 77.  Kathleen was born on February 16, 1947, in Camden, New Jersey to James and Gertrude Johnson.  She was raised in Camden, New Jersey and attended schools in different countries due to her father being in the military.  She joined Old Scott's Hill AME Church when she moved to North Carolina.  As a member of Old Scott's Hill Church, she served as a Deaconess, Missionary and faithful choir member until her health failed.  "Kat" as she was so fondly called, loved to sing.  Her favorite song was "When I Rose This Morning, What A Blessing!"  Kathleen worked as a cook for many years, and she retired from Liberty Commons Rehabilitation Center. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip E and Gertrude Johnson, her loving husband f 37 years, John Nixon, Sr. and her beautiful daughter, Ursula Peoples. Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, John (Beverly) Nixon; son-in-law, Jeremiah Peoples; grandchildren, Larry Burns, Jr., Deontre Peoples, Allyah Tata and Jalon (Eboni) Nixon; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy (Renetta) Johnson; sisters, Cindy Johnson and Gwen (John) Brown; in-laws, Edna (Ernest) Lewis, George Nixon, Ismiala Abdul-Ghani, Alonzo (Deborah) Nixon, Mamie (Doug) Carlos; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a dear friend, Arelia Corbett.
