Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at St. Andrew AME Zion Church; 1201 South 9th Street. Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Julius Alfonza Brinkley , was born on September 15, 1951, to the late Tempie Charlotte Brinkley and John J. Murphy, Sr, in Wilmington, NC. On Thursday, September 1, 2022, he quietly answered God's call. Julius left Wilmington at age 11 for Father Flanagan's Home for Boys in Boys Town, Nebraska, where he served as mentor to the boys in his dormitory. Julius became active in student government programs and was elected by his peers as a commissioner and councilman for his fellow classmates. In 1969, the citizens of Boys Town elected him as their mayor of Boys Town. He graduated high school from Boys Town in 1970. Julius joined the US Air Force, serving his country honorably for 4 years. He served as Administrative Specialist and Chief Supply Clerk. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Washington DC and gained employment with the US Naval Research Laboratory until his retirement. Julius attended and later joined St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC where he worked diligently for his church. He later converted from the catholic faith, joining Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD in 1997 where he was a faithful servant until he transitioned home. He was a member of the Issachar Tribal Family, and he served faithfully in the Trustee Ministry, the Men Rites of Passage, Mens' Fellowship, Social Action-Share Ministries and The Singles Ministry. Julius also obtained computers and started the computer lab at Peoples Community. He was a loving, caring and always giving person who loved his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Julius was preceded in death by his siblings, Marquita Hardy, Carolyn Brinkley, Bernard Brinkley, Anthony Ray Brinkley, James "JJ" Murphy and Sammy Murphy. Julius leaves to forever cherish his memories: his sisters, Lois Taylor (Ronnith) of Raleigh, NC, Joeann Taylor (Leon) of Spartanburg, SC, a special sister, Gloria Brinkley-Caldwell (Leroy) of Wilmington, NC, Diane Nixon (Don), Janice Cromartie and Karen Murphy all of Wilmington, NC; brothers, William "Top Cat" Brinkley and Charles Brinkley, both of the Wilmington, NC, and, Michael Murphy of Virginia; sister-in-law, Eremaine Murphy; two aunts, Nannie Mapson of Wilmington, NC, and Dorothy Waring (Alvin Sr.) of Washington, DC; one uncle, Albert Brinkley (Sylvia) of Charleston, SC, a special cousin, Alvin Waring, Jr. of Washington, DC; church family of Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Springs, MD and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including special friends, members of the Racquet Club Condominiums of Hyattsville, MD, Douglas Polk and Kevin Byrams.
