Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Julia Michelle Harris affectionately known as "Cookie" was born on March 29, 1951, to the late Julia Tripp Gittens in Pollocksville, North Carolina.  On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Cookie answered the call from our heavenly Father and departed this earthy life. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael Corbett, Isaac Corbett, Frances Hockaday, and Barbara Smith. Julia was educated in the New Hanover County Public School System in Wilmington, North Carolina.  She was employed with New Hanover County Schools.  Cookie was a member of Mt. Moriah United Holy Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. Cookie had a way of making you laugh with her captivating sense of humor.  She was a devoted mother who was always there when her daughter needed her.  She was a fun and loving person that would give you the shirt off her back if you asked her for it. Her faith and her family were extremely important to her; she always kept God first in her life.  Cookie was a sweet person; however, she had no issues with speaking her truth.  She leaves to cherish fond memories: her husband of many years, Robert Murphy; her daughter, Shanta Harris; two stepchildren, Yvette Murphy-Erby (Anthony) and Roderick Murphy (Flora); two step-grandchildren, Miah Murphy and Roderick Murphy Jr.; two sisters, Gwendolyn Polk (Ronnie) and Cinda Corbett; one aunt, Pauline Cuthbert and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
