Joseph Sweet (aka Yusuf) was born to the late Ruby Yates Sweet Stone and Joseph Sweet, Sr., on October 20, 1949. Joseph was the second child of eleven children. Joseph traveled the highway to heaven and gained his heavenly wings on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
Joe, as he was affectionately called was educated briefly in New Hanover County schools during his elementary years. Joe went on to complete his education in the Newark, New Jersey School System. He made his home between Newark and Philadelphia for more than sixty years. Joe relocated back home in the last ten years to Wilmington, NC.
Joe (Yusuf) was a Jokester. He enjoyed making others laugh. He loved Life! He was devoted to his family. His sister, Rosa Mack, was his strength.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by eight siblings, four sisters, Ella Mae Sweet, Janice Faye Sweet, Delores Sweet, and Cynthia Sweet; 4 brothers, Richard Sweet, Nathaniel Sweet, Ronald Sweet and Reginald Sweet.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memory 12 devoted children, Rosalyn and Edward McGhee, Joseph, Samantha, Ruby, Tasha, Derrick Cannon, Hanif, Gentry, Zakia Howell, Yusuf Sweet, and Malik Yusuf; 8 sisters, Rosa Sweet Mack, Christine Ballard (Herman), Verlene Singleton (Leroy), Regina Sweet, Melinda Sweet, Bernadette Johnson (Joseph), Felicia Sweet and Shaniqua Sweet; 5 brothers, Thomas Earl Sweet (Annie), Willie Emanuel Sweet, Ronnie Shaw (Tersa), Gary Sweet, and Darrell Sweet; 1 aunt, Ernestine Yates Allen. He also leaves to mourn, his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; along with great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
