Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Davis Chapel M B Church, Navassa, NC.  Burial will follow in the Meares Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Saturday at Davis Chapel.

Johnny Goat, as he was affectionately called, was employed at the Bolivia Lumber Company for more than 35 years until his retirement.  He was a master builder of picnic tables and a master negotiator as well. He was the Community Watermelon Man, and Oh! The large watermelons were a sight to behold.  He was often seen daily on the corners from Navassa to Phoenix either selling picnic tables or watermelons. Johnny also had a favorite pastime of fishing.  His mantra was "as far as that's concerned" and "really, right now" and "it may not happen." Surviving to cherish memories of Johnny are his wife of 68 years, Martha Jane Grady of the home, sons, Johnny James Grady, Jr. of Navassa, NC; and Maurice Bryant of the home, bonus daughter, Geralene Mosley of Navassa, NC; 5 grandchildren, Patrick Grady and Karie Grady (his heart & soul), Maurice Williams, Jeavone Williams, Sr, (Tangela), Nichole Williams, 5 great grandchildren, Audrey Barnes, Carlos Barnes (Paulette), Jazmyne Williams, Tristan Amias Williams, and Veronda Williams, sisters, Lossie Bryant of Wilmington, NC; Hattie Mosley and Maxine Grady (John) both of Leland, NC; Nancy Simpson of Petersburg, Virginia; brothers, Harvey Lee Grady of Brooklyn, New York; Billy Simpson of Cibolo, Texas; Bobby Simpson of Petersburg, Virginia; William Hall Lucy) of Watha, NC; Joseph Hall, and Marvin Hall (Berthen) both of Leland, NC; sisters- in- law, Pamela Simpson of Wilmington, NC; Mary Hall of Charlotte NC; brother-in-law, Robert Everett of Navassa, NC; special niece, Carolyn Andrews, cousins, Ruby Ballard, John Grady, James Lanier Grady, and friend, Jake Green, God children, Patricia White (Greg), Earlene Sloan (Howard) and Levi Moore, Jr. (Shawn), and his personal pizza buddy Joshua White.  Johnny was blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
