Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Island Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Johnnie Mae Keith, born on May 11, 1943, in Coahoma, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, in Wilmington, NC. The cherished daughter of Robert L. Averyhart and Marie Collins Averyhart, Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Quiana Howard, siblings Mary Alice Willis and Robert Averyhart Jr., and half-siblings Walter Edward Averyhart and Ramona Johnson. Johnnie enjoyed a fruitful career at Long Beach Memorial Hospital and with Dr. Ronald Smith, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life, being baptized at St. John's MB Church and later joining Island Creek MB Church in Wilmington. Johnnie married the love of her life, Trevia Keith, and they shared 42 wonderful years until his passing in 2013. Survived by her loving daughters Melvia, Natalie, and Michelle, grandchildren Marques (Victoria), Shanaye (Thomas), and Jacquelyn; great-grandchildren Quione, Jaelyn, Nayla, Xavier, Violet, Berkeley, and Chancellor; and great-great grand child Josiah. Johnnie's legacy of love and laughter will endure. She also leaves behind her dear sister Dorothy Jean Averyhart, half-siblings Sebastian (Scotty) Johnson and Marlin Johnson, cousin-sister Lilly Ann Matthews, cousin-brother Aaron Collins, and countless others.
