Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Warner Temple AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in the Singleton Cemetery, Bladenboro, NC. Visitation is from 5:30 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnnie Geralds, Jr. , age 85, of Wilmington, North Carolina transferred from labor to reward on September 8, 2022. Mr. Geralds, son of the late Johnnie Geralds and Nezzie Graham-Geralds, was born on December 18, 1936. Mr. Geralds was a native of Robeson County. He attended J.H. Haywood High School in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 1979, New Cassel Lodge No. 19, Westbury, New York and was a member in good standing s . He was married to the late Janice P. Geralds in 1958. Out of this union, four children were born: Johnny III, Tina, Annette, and Jerome. Mr. Geralds was very active in his community. He worked at the Nassau County Police Department as Maintenance Supervisor and retired after 22 years of service. He joined Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Company No.3 on October 21, 1978, and retired on August 16, 2005. On October 3, 1976, Mr. Geralds began serving as Captain of the Police Ambulatory Unit and served for 28 years, 9 months and 8 days. He kept busy being a jack of all trades, such as: owning his own office cleaning business, supplying the vending machines at the church, bus driver for Manhasset High School in Manhasset, New York and driver for Atria Senior Living Facility in Great Neck, New York. Mr. Geralds loved his family as well as serving the community. He would deliver turkey baskets and all types of breads throughout the community churches and senior resident facilities during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Mr. Geralds accepted Christ at an early age. He played a major part in having the street sign changed from Allen Drive to the Dr. J. A. Griffin Drive, recognizing the late pastor of First Baptist Church in Great Neck, New York, where he formerly served as a trustee. Mr. Geralds relocated to Bladenboro, North Carolina with his family. He joined Round Branch Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He also made Black History by becoming the first Black elected member of the Bladenboro Rotary Club. He still had time for community service. He coordinated Toys for Tots USA for the community. On August 31, 2012, he married Margaret Clemmons. He also joined Warner Temple AME Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Clifford D. Barnett, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Jerome; four brothers, Linwood, Horace, Robert, and Lawrence; three sisters, Ruthsell, Sarah Lynn and Myrtle and one bonus son, Roderick. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Margaret Clemmons-Geralds of the home; three children, Johnny Geralds of Freeport, NY, Tina (Elroy) McLeod of Lancaster, CA and Annette (Vander) Simmons of Bladenboro, NC; grandchildren, Veronica, Brittany, Michaela and Winter; bonus grandchildren, Ashley, Paige and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Messiah and MaRaya; two brothers, Nelson of Salisbury, NC and Earl Lee of Winston Salem, NC; sisters-in-law, Gloria Hughes-Geralds, Lawrestine Ferguson-Geralds, Defina Singletary, Doretha Dickerson (Quinn), Vela Price, and Laura McIntyre (Harris); brothers-in-law, David Oates, Major General Reginal G. Clemmons (Sylvia), Thomas James (Harriet), and Jerry Singletary (Catherine); a host of other relatives and friends.
