Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Shaw Funeral Home.  Visitation is at 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.  John T. Sessoms Sr, age 89, passed away on April 11, 2024, in Wilmington, NC.  He was a pillar of strength and love for his family and friends. John's vibrant spirit and laughter brought joy to those around him.  In addition to his love for the outdoors, John was a man of many talents.  He had a green thumb and took great pride intending to his garden.  His passion for fishing was a source of tranquility and connection to nature.  Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and friendly competition as John enjoyed playing card games with his loved ones.  John's legacy of hard work and dedication to his family will continue to inspire future generations.  His commitment to providing for his loved ones was a testament to his selflessness and devotion.  John leaves to cherish his memory: wife Gwendolyn Sessoms; sons, John (Portia) Sessoms, Jr. and Elton (Essie) Sessoms; daughters, Sheila (James) McNeil, Laura Lee Shepard and Shawan (Alvin) Walker; Stepsons, Carl Bell, Benjamin Patrick, Jr., and Donald Ragin.  A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family and friends.
