Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Shaw Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.

John William James was born on July 19, 1962, in Wilmington, North Carolina to John William Brewington and Geneva Williams James. John departed this life on March 5, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Geneva; his brother, Henry, and sisters, Lytonall and Doris. Among his many passions were cooking and music. In the kitchen, he found solace in experimenting with new recipes, blending flavors, and creating culinary masterpieces. Music was another profound passion that played a significant role in his life. Some of his favorite artists include but are not limited to Al Jarreau and Frankie Beverly & Maze. He is survived by: his two children, Katia Flood of Killeen, TX and Bobby James of Charlotte, NC; one grandchild, Makayla Flood of Wilmington, NC; three great-grandchildren, Malayshia Flood, Harmony Hansley and Haisley Hansley of Wilmington, NC; one special aunt, Vivian "Inez" Lewis of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Darrell (Teressa) Williams of Winterville/Greenville, NC and Darnell Hansley of Wilmington, NC; one sister, Davita Hansley of Wilmington, NC; two special friends, Jacqueline Mack of Wilmington, NC and Adrian Taylor of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
