John Wesley Bridges, age 77, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on June 17, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on January 16, 1948, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to the late Cleo and Mable Bridges, John was a man of great strength, talent, and heart. He spent a quarter of his life in Manhattan, New York, where his sharp mind and creative hands were found in many outlets, but Wilmington was always home. A proud graduate of Cape Fear Community College, John studied automotive mechanics, laying the foundation for a life defined by skill and resourcefulness. He was truly a jack of all trades — a gifted machinist, mechanic, professional painter, and entrepreneur with a natural gift for sales. His creativity extended into the arts as well, and he was especially known for crafting stunning stretched bottle art that reflected his precision and imagination. John had a heart as big as the ocean and was always willing to help anyone in need, without hesitation. He was grounded in strong faith, attending Mt. Zion Church as a child and later accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, a decision that guided his life and legacy. He is survived by his loving daughter, Tiesha Wesley Bridges, one granddaughter, Kylenn Amelia Bridges, two sisters; Audrey Bridges and Loretta Shepard Baily (Jerry), four brothers who are all deceased; Edward Bridges (Liz), Cleveland Bridges (Elizabeth), Daniel Bridges (Coleen) and Rudolf Bridges (Rosa Lee); three nieces, Audrica Griffin (Special Niece), Stephinie Bridges and Mimi Bridges, five nephews; Damon Shepard, Raymond Shepard, David Shepard, Anthony Atkinson, De'Lawrence Atkinson, Darrell Atkinson (deceased), and Ronald Bridges. There are a host of other extended family members and dear friends who will carry his memory with them always.
