Joe L. Roberts was born to the late Richard Roberts, Sr. and Bobbie Walker Roberts on January 26, 1940, in Hialeah, Florida, and was the youngest of his siblings.  Joe received his education in the Florida public school system.  After high school, Joe received a baseball scholarship to Florida A&M University in 1963, majoring in Sports Education. While attending his final year in college, he was drafted into the United States Army and served two years.  After his honorable discharge, he later obtained his bachelor's degree as a Sports Specialist in 1982 from Bowie State College, and he worked at Fort Meade Sports Center as a Sports Specialist until his retirement in 1995.  As an avid sports fan, he loved every sport, but most of all, baseball.  A few of his favorite hobbies were watching world news channels, riding his tractor, completing home improvement projects, and serving and spending time with his wife, Sallie.  Joe was loved by everyone who knew him, and he always had an infectious smile on his face to greet you.  Joe accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and supported Perkinsville MB Church.

In 1966, Joe met the love of his life, Sallie Adams, through a mutual friend at the

University of MD-Eastern Shore.  The lovebirds dated for two years and married on July 14, 1968; they were married for 54 wonderful years. During all the years of their marriage, they affectionately called each other as "Boo" and "Bookie". After Sallie retired from the Baltimore City School System, the two moved from Glen Burnie, MD to Leland, NC in 1999, where he remained until his death.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, mother and all his siblings, except for his oldest sister, Sarah Mae Gardner.  Joe leaves to mourn his wife, Sallie M. Roberts; two daughters, Toljiana Roberts-Smith (James) and LaSaunda Logan (Brandon); eight grandchildren, Roger Allen, Jaemye Smith, Gregory Fowlkes, Jr., Aidan Logan, Gabriel Logan, Jamelle Smith, Benjamin Logan, and Isabella Logan; three great-grandchildren, Angelique Allen, Pharaoh Allen, and Mikha Cook; one brother-in-law, James Adams, Jr. (Charlene); one special "sister" Centry Greene (Preston); two sisters-in-law, Fannie Roberts and Rue Belle Roberts; one godmother: Ma Emily Ruth Waddell; several godchildren, Lanard Roberts (Pamela), Tim Roberts, Monica Bellamy (Billy), Evette Townes, Alexis McIntyre, Lillie Mae Aiken, and Gianna DeHazel Aiken, and a very large host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
