Obituary

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 8, 2025 @ 11:00 a.m. at Warner Temple AMEZ Church.  Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2025 @ 5:30 [p.m. at the funeral home.

James Fredrick McDuffie, affectionately known as "James Freddie" or "Freddie" by all who knew and loved him, peacefully slipped away into the arms of Jesus on July 2, 2025. He was 78 years old. Born on December 5, 1946, in Wilmington, North Carolina. James was the beloved son of the late Hattie Mae McIntyre and William Henry McDuffie, Sr.  He was educated in the New Hanover County School System, then went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army Special Forces. During his military career, he demonstrated unwavering bravery and commitment, earning multiple commendations, including the prestigious "Purple Heart Award". A man of strong faith, James was a member of Warner Temple AME Zion Church. James was known for his vibrant personality and deep love for his family. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of dancing to good music, collecting gold, and being surrounded by those he loved. On April 4, 2009, James married Gloria McDuffie. Their union was a testament to enduring love and joyful companionship. James was preceded in death by his parents James McIntyre and Hattie Mae McIntyre; his brothers, William McDuffie Jr., James McClean, and Edward McDuffie; his sister, Brenda Bryant; his daughter, Michelle Durham; and his grandson, Malik Bryant. James lived a full life of purpose, love, and laughter. His legacy of strength, kindness, and resilience will live on in all those who had the honor of knowing him. James leaves to cherish his memories: Wife Gloria McDuffie; children James Clarida, Fredrick McDuffie, Jacqueline Murphy, Jamara McDuffie, Larniese Bellamy, Denise Bellamy, Regina Stokes-Carlos; son-in-Law William Durham; stepchildren Christopher DeBose, Shaun Daniels; siblings Edgar Smith (Elois), Reginald McIntyre (Stephanie), Karen McIntyre-Morrison (Michael), Juanita McDuffie (Velma), Janice McDuffie.  Special friends Mr. Lee, Mr. Hubert, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Martin.  Special niece Hattie McIntyre.  Twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
