James Burnell Stevenson was born June 15, 1956, in Southport NC to Alice Fullwood Stevenson and the late Burnice Stevenson.  Peace came to him on Wednesday July 24, 2024, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, Supply NC.  His brother, Emerson Stevenson preceded him in death on July 24, 2008.  Burnell as he was called was a member of Little Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a man who met no strangers and always had something witty to say.  Burnell "aka" Crocodile loved to work in the garden and crack jokes.  His grandchildren, who were dear to his heart called him "Popoff" and he called them "little and big" possums.  Burnell was employed as a Grave Digger for various funeral homes in the Wilmington and Supply area.  His most recent employment was with John H. Shaw's Funeral Home.  The highlight of his day was talking and joking with the staff.  On July 27, 1979, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary Lou Bellamy.  God blessed them to raise three beautiful children.  He leaves to cherish his memories:  His wife of 44 years, Mary Lou Stevenson, two daughters, Charisma Stevenson of Supply NC, Juanita Lynne Stevenson of High Point, NC; one son, Anthony Stevenson of Supply NC; mother, Alice Stevenson of Bolivia, NC; sisters, Alene Williams, Marie Williams (Archie), Marlene Lewis, Lillie P. Williams, Bernice Terrell (Johnny) all of Bolivia, NC; aunts, Margie Gardner (Thomas), Marsha Grissett (Perty), Mazell Campbell, Addie Brown, and Jessie McCoy all of Bolivia NC and Jeanette Smith (Harry) of Supply NC; uncles,  Jerry Lee Stevenson (Rochelle) of Supply, NC, Norris "Bill" Brown (Kim) of Bolivia NC; In-laws, Rudolph Bellamy (Lillian) Jerlyne Lawton (Ike), Elmore Bellamy (Rhonda), Connie Moore (Marcus), Samuel Bellamy (Evelina) who was a close friend and like a brother to him; twelve grandchildren, Chantel, Kejuanta, Jeleta,  Destiny, Charistian, Kya, Devonta, Ty Veair, Ta'Manii, Ta'Nyri, Liyana, and Loyalti; ten great-grandchildren, Jaleigh, Deontra, Nylah-Mae, Preston, Iceland, Isaiah, Alijah, Kadien, Zechariah, and Josiah; special friends, TT Way, Josh Johnson and Terrell Jolly, many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
