James Dudley Ross, Ill (a.k.a. Ross, Junior, or June Bug) transitioned from this life on October 10, 2025, at his home in Wilmington, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James Ross, and his mom, Rev. Carrie House Ross. His Dad gave him the power and will to succeed and his Mom gave him the Bible, strength, and confidence to excel. This all lead him to spread his wings, leaving the church of his childhood, First Missionary Baptist Church and joining the church family of Macedonia Baptist Church. James grew up in Wilmington and in his beloved family community of Seabreeze. He graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1979 and attended Cape Fear Community College. He furthered his education by earning the certification of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence that verifies mechanical knowledge and skills. Junior was truly a car guy, if it had wheels, he loved it. It was in his blood. He even raced cars and motorcycles and in his younger years was a member of the Port City Wheelers Motorcycle Club of Wilmington. When his work-life began, he worked in his favorite place, the ocean. He worked early hours of the morning alongside Capt. Rick Wilson where he learned to navigate the sea in the days before modern instruments and GPS. His next love was working with his dad in the family business at Ross' Auto Service Center, where his dad taught him the delicate art of automotive painting and finishing. During all of this he was industrious enough to demonstrate another love, that of cooking. He worked at Pearl's Seafood Restaurant and Catering for several years. Along the way he worked with Wilmington Auto Salvage and just for fun, Staff One Security where he traveled to several NC venues and state universities. In the pursuit of yet another goal he joined the hard-working men and women of the International Longshoremen's Association, Local 1426. This would be his final working adventure. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his sister: Veronica (Jackie) Smith of Greenville, NC; daughter: Shamone Thomas of Wilmington, NC; and son: Quinn Dunn (Taylor) of Orangeburg, SC; bonus son: Isaiah Thomas of Leland, NC; bonus daughter: Eudasia Bryant (Travis) of Wilmington, NC; his beloved grandchildren:  ZéQuan, Jaylin, and Kayden Parker, Austyn and Bella Dunn, McKenzie, Madison, and Maddox Thomas, and Taliyah and Tailynn Johnson. He also leaves four beautiful aunts; one smiling uncle; and many loving, supportive cousins, and so many other wonderful relatives and friends. As we remember Junior, we also celebrate the lasting and deep impact he had on our lives. His kindness, his love of family, his helpfulness, his smile, and don't forget his love of seafood. He always said, "this life owes me nothing, I had things, I did things, and I saw things and through it all GOD kept me".
