Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Mt. Roney Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. James Brunson was born on October 19, 1935, to the late Mary McKnight and Irvin Brunson. His journey ended suddenly on April 7, 2023.In his younger years, he was a supervisor at a fertilizer plant in Wilmington, NC. He later transition with his family to Brooklyn, NY where he worked at Bell Lumber Yard. After raising his beautiful children, he, and his wife (late Elizabeth Brunson) decided to return to Wilmington, NC. James was very friendly and loved the joy of laughing more than anything. He loved his children and his grandchildren dearly. Kim and Cantata were the two who gave him what he craved the most, which was laughter. Jahmir James Spruill, born April 10, 2023, was the only great grand he was yet to meet. Later in life, James gave his life to Christ and joined Mount Roney Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Trustee Board. He was preceded in death by his wife, the love his life, Mrs. Elizbeth Brunson, which he was married to for 50 plus years. Sisters Leona Brunson, Catherine Logan, brother Irvin (Shot) Brunson, and son Larry (Shady Grady). He leaves to cherish his memory seven children: Rachel Thomas (Darrell Thomas), Loretta Brunson (Atlanta, GA), Junetta Jenkins (Rochester, NY), Lawrence Brunson (Brooklyn, NY), Candy Brunson (Wilmington, NC), Letita De Carvajal (Tulio Carvajal), and Lamont Brunson (Dallas, TX). Four nieces: Janice, Diane, Lynette Brunson, of Wilmington, NC, and Carolyn Brunson (Raleigh, NC); two nephews, William Conyers and Tony Brunson of Wilmington, NC.; Granddaughters, Priscilla, Tiffany, Shameka Kimberly, Cantata, Lamaya, Ismani, Islaya, Jara and Amber; Grandsons, Steven, Darell, Larry Jr., Joshua, Shaquille, and Christian. Special friends at Robert S. Taylor Homes, Delois Gause, JR, and Thuseum. Special family members "His Girls": Laura, Mazie, and Dot. A host great grandchildren, grand nieces, grand nephews, family, and friends.
