Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in the Willie L. Shaw Jr. Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 P.M. on Saturday.

Jamel LaVern Damon , son of Pricilla Damon and the late Eric Ballard was born on May 25, 1990.  He departed this earthly life on Friday, May 13, 2022. Jamel was educated in the New Hanover County School System, graduating from Ashley High School in the Class of 2009.  Jamel was a very funny person with a great sense of humor.  There was never a dry eye in the room when he was present.  He loved his children, his family and his friends.  Jamel worked various jobs before his illness.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Dedon Smith.  He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Isabella, Jahmeer and R'mani; his mother, Pricilla Damon; brother, Jahiem Damon; maternal grandmother, Rachel Thomas (Darrell); paternal grandmother, Georgia Crumdy; aunts, Tameka Davis (Robbie) and Alicia Simpson; uncles, Thomas Crumdy (Cassandra), Isaiah Ballard, Steven Damon and Darrell Smith; a special friend, Jameisha Spearman; a host of cousins; great-aunts; great-uncles and friends.
