Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, Riegelwood, NC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation is from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church.

Mrs. Ivery Madaline Jacobs-Saunders died peacefully in Novant Regional Medical Center on March 10, 2025, at the age of 91. Madaline as she was affectionately called was born on August 27, 2025, in Armour, North Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Mary Derzette Bryant Jacobs and John H. Jacobs, Jr. who preceded her in death as well as her brothers Oliver Foster Jacobs, Alphonzia Jacobs, Eric Von Jacobs, niece Barbara L. Jacobs and her husband, Norman E. Saunders. Madaline joined Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church in her teens. She loved the Lord and has served as a Stewardess, Trustee (responsible for the building of the Fellowship Hall that seats 300), sang in the Senior Choir as well as a life Missionary. Madaline graduated from Armour High School, May 1952. She received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education and Economics from North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University) in May, 1956. After graduating college, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. Her first job was with the Naval Research Laboratory, located in the Brooklyn, New York Navy Yard. She left the Naval Research Laboratory to accept employment with NY City Human Resources Administration as Health and Retirement Manager. She was promoted to Budget Chief of Human Resources Administrator. She returned to federal Civil Services at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington D.C. as a GS-14. She worked in EPA's Budget Department later moving to the Financial Branch as part of a task force to create the Superfund Branch. The responsibility of this branch was to establish a financial system to track hazard waste sites throughout the U.S.A. In this capacity, she worked with US Justice Attorneys on cases, US Treasury in which she invested $2 million dollars weekly. She retired from EPA December 1994. After retirement, she lived between her homes in Englewood, New Jersey and Armour, North Carolina. Surviving to cherish her memories are her sisters-in-law; Elouise B. Jacobs, Theresa Jacobs and Joyce Marion Jacobs, nieces; Linda Wilson (Ronald), Regina Wheeler (Melvin), Danielle Jacobs Kirkland (Terry), Jacqueline Banks (Obie), Bridget Jacobs Holmes (Lance), Shayvonne Jacobs, Catala Jacobs, Sylvia Brown, Deirdre Lynch (Milton); nephews, Darryll Robinson, Alphonzia Jacobs, Jr. (Rhonda), Chad M. Jacobs (Tania), Foster Jacobs (Mary), Foster Erick Jacobs, Gregory Graham, Dr. Carl Brown and Orrin Brown; adopted daughter, Renee Herriott of Tea Neck, NJ; adopted granddaughter, Dee Anne L. Ferguson of Charlotte, NC; her best friend, Carrie Mendenhall of Hartford, CT; special nieces, Amira "Pumpkin" Bowen and her namesake Raya "Ivery" Moss and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
